Prahran Football Club, Fri Dec 8, 2017 11:25AM

WELCOME to  Tim's Tips - Selections for main Melbourne race meetings by former Herald Sun sports journalist Tim Habel. He is now a contributor to The Age so his tips for major city meetings will be in The Age formguide.

PAKENHAM SATURDAY DECEMBER 9. Rail true. Track heavy 8.

JE SUIS TYCOON 1, Boom Chicka Boom 2, Belle Sonic 3, She's Our Gift 4

The wet track brings backmarker Je Suis Tycoon into play. He won on a heavy 8 at the Warrnambool May carnival.

SOHO RUBY 1, Whyousask 2, Macattack 3, Red Is The Rose 4

Soho Ruby was terrific coming from last resuming at Ballarat. She was very consistent last preparation and unlike many of her main rivals is proven in soft ground.

CASTA 1, Fontein Lad 2, Multitude 3, Get The Picture 4

Casta hit the line strongly at Ballarat at the end of 1600m on a soft 7, will relish the extra 400m and testing long straight.

LEODORO 1, Invincible Al 2, Wise Hero 3, Star Stealer 4

Deep race, Leodoro has great fresh stats and handles the wet.

JUNGLE EDGE 1, Chamois Road 2, Sirbible 3, Stellar Collision 4

Jungle Edge is a marvel who keeps winning and again gets his preferred soft ground.

SILVERA 1, Another Coldie 2, Riyadh 3, Jacquinot Bay 4

Looks a match between emerging gallopers Silvera and Another Coldie, leaning to Silvera who has the better soft track form.

ONCIDIUM RULER 1, Grey Lion 2, Dandy Gent 3, De Little Engine 4

Unlike most of these Oncidium Ruler has been set for this race and was gallant in defeat in the Ballarat Cup which should top him off for this. Grey Lion , who keeps racing well without winning in Cups, and De Little Engine also come through that race. Dandy Gent was surprisingly sound when not suited at weight-for-age in the Sandown Classic.

BURNING FRONT 1, Grande Rosso 2, Willi Willi 3, Amadeus 4

Burning Front and Grande Rosso have shared wins in this race for the past two years and under the set weights conditions it would be a major surprise if one of the duo does not win again. Leaning to Burning Front who has the better soft track record.

IMPERATOR AUGUSTUS 1, Star Major 2, Mr Churchill 3, Hell On Earth 4

Imperator Augustus has been a beaten favourite at his past two but he's a multiple Sydney wet track winner and so gets conditions to suit here. Didn't get much galloping room late in Adelaide after being shuffled back to last on the turn. Star Major is lightly raced and well spruiked but a $101 chance drew away from him late at Geelong. Mr Churchill was luckless at the Valley and has great track and distance stats but a poor soft track record.

BEST BETS: Soho Ruby, Jungle Edge. VALUE BET: Casta.

1st leg: 8, 11
2nd leg: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9
3rd leg: 1, 3
4th leg: 1, 5, 11
For a $20 outlay you would receive 33.33 per cent of a $1 dividend.
