Tim's Tips (Racing)

Prahran Football Club, Fri Apr 21, 2017 11:25AM

WELCOME to  Tim's Tips - Selections for main Melbourne race meetings by former Herald Sun sports journalist Tim Habel. He is now a contributor to The Age so his tips for major city meetings will be in The Age formguide.

CAULFIELD SATURDAY APRIL 22. Rail out 8m. Track soft  5.

RACE 1

REFECTORY 1, Spur On Gold 2, Bayanova 3, Like A Carousel 4

Flat marathon and hardly a good betting medium. Refectory has won a hurdle trial since his latest flat run and might make his own luck in front.

RACE 2

UNBREAKABLE 1, Pay Up Bro 3, Mr Churchill 4

Unbreakable is better suited out to 1600m, was outsprinted in an on pace dominated race at Bendigo.

 RACE 3

BURNING FRONT 1, Managaress 2, Mr Individual 3, Entre Nous 4

Burning Front is unbeaten in three track and trip starts and pitched in at the set weights which explains why he will start long odds on.

RACE 4

RUTHVEN 1, Rockstar Rebel 2, Toffee Nose 3, Hard Call 4

Fourth home in the AJC Derby, Ruthven is back to 2000m using this is a 'tick over',  run for the SA Derby.

RACE 5

JE SUIS TYCOON 1, Seized 2, Pure Scot 3, Sun Quan 4

The Bendigo Gold Rush placegetters should fight this out, little between them.

RACE 6

FRENCH EMOTION 1, Tidy Prophet 2, Whistle Baby 3, Diamond Baroness 4

These set weights VOBIS races are a dream for punters as the better horses are extra well weighted. French Emotion is a case in point as a Group 1 placegetter. She hit the line strongly behind Sadaqa last week, back to her pet 1400m trip should win. Tidy Prophet is value runner for the exotics, smart SA mare who was luckless first-up, loves cut in the ground and won second-up last time in work.

RACE 7

FAATINAH 1, Kaepernick 2, O'Malley 3, Crystal Dreamer 4

Speedster and Oakleigh Plate runner-up Faatinah will give a great sight back on firmer ground after striking a heavy track at Randwick. O'Malley is a swooper who will appreciate some cut in the ground while Crystal Dreamer is racing well in lesser grade.

RACE 8

TYCOON TARA 1, Lucky Liberty 2, Ken's Dream 3, Thermal Current 4

Tycoon Tara was a victim of the track bias resuming at Randwick when she tracked wide. She's at her best on pace near the rails which she will be from barrier four. Lucky Liberty is injury troubled but a good talent and has trialled well for this. Ken's Dream bungled the start but still beat his own age here last time while Thermal Current is well treated at the set weights and is most reliable.

RACE 9

KAZIO 1, Sword Of Light 2, Think Babe 3, Greviste 4

Kazio caught the eye storming home in the Bendigo Guineas. In his first preparation but the 1600m looks made to order. Sword Of Light belied the doubters to run a strong 1600m last week and can beat the boys  despite the wide draw. Think Babe has drawn even wider but he's untapped and D K Weir trained.

BEST BETS:  French Emotion, Ruthven VALUE BET: Tycoon Tara.
