WELCOME to Tim's Tips - Selections for main Melbourne race meetings by former Herald Sun sports journalist Tim Habel. He is now a contributor to The Age so his tips for major city meetings will be in The Age formguide.
FLEMINGTON SATURDAY JUNE 24. Rail out 9m. Track good 4.
RIVER JEWEL 1, Royal Symphony 2, Egyptian Bullet 3, Wired 4
River Jewel led throughout to win the Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill, always a good form race.
ASHLOR 1, Ken's Dream 2, Wise Hero 3, Invincible Al 4
Ashlor is a bold on pacer racing in peak form and back to his own age will take beating.
GIVE US A GO 1, Tsaritsa 2, Step The Pedal 3, Niminipiminy 4
Tough race, Give Us A Go tracked wide so had an excuse at Sandown, back to mares grade can atone.
SAYED 1, Duke Of Ellington 2, Portion Control 3, Ashlee Marie 4
Improving Sayed controlled a Sandown mid-weeker from in front and this is not a great deal stronger.
CHARLEVOIX 1, Megablast 2, Mujadale 3, Hursley 4
Blinkers first time may do the trick for Charlevoix who faded on his run last time.
HUSSON EAGLE 1, Lake Como 2, Ability 3, Lord Von Costa 4
Husson Eagle can emulate his stablemate Invincible Al by coming with a late run down the grandstand rail. Lake Como has won her past three down the straight and will give a great sight again. Ability was impressive first-up at the Valley while Lord Von Costa beat all but Santa Ana Lane in the Wagga Town Plate and has good straight form.
REWARDING EFFORT 1, Artie's Shore 2, By The Grace 3, Trinity Hill 4
Rewarding Effort worked home well out wide a fortnight ago here over 1400m. Unbeaten at 1600m and well placed on the minimum. Artie's Shore was poor in the Swan Hill Cup but ran well here at his previous start and ran was beaten less than two lengths in this race last year.
TSHAHITSI 1, Cannyescent 2, Loyalty Man 3, Royal Rapture 4
Tasmanian Tshahitsi gave his rivals a trouncing leading throughout at the track and distance a fortnight ago. Rises 3.5kg but that won't stop him repeating.
WIDGEE TURF 1, Samovare 2, Urban Ruler 3, The Passage 4
Widgee Turf, a last start Sandown winner, is first time at 1600m and not raced for 28 days but trainer Patrick Payne sent him to the Avoca trials in the meantime when he cruised home from last to run second. Former WA mare Somovare is a Group 2 winner at this trip and fitter for a first-up second here.
BEST BETS: Tshahitsi, Rewarding Effort. VALUE BET: Husson Eagle.
