Tim's Tips (Racing)

Prahran Football Club, Fri Sep 21, 2018 11:25AM

WELCOME to  Tim's Tips - Selections for main Melbourne race meetings by former Herald Sun sports journalist Tim Habel. He is now a contributor to The Age so his tips for major city meetings will be in The Age formguide.

CAULFIELD SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22. Rail.9m . Track good 4.

RACE 1: EXTRA BRUT 1, A Fighting Fury 2, Seberate 3, Global Exchange 4

RACE 2: LUCKY FOR ALL 1, Octabello 2, Harmattan 3, Al Galayel 4

RACE 3: WRITTEN BY 1, Heart Conquered 2, Roosevelt 3, Fine Dane 4

RACE 4: TULIP 1, Shokora 2, Lady Of Flanders 3, Shoko 4

RACE 5: BANDIPUR 1, Bons Away 2, Oberland 3, Badajoz 4

RACE 6: ASSERTIVE PLAY 1, Anjana 2, Krone 3, Spanish Whisper 4

Assertive Play and Anjana were both unlucky resuming in the Atlantic Jewel at the Valley, in particular Assertive Play who was climbing over the back of the placegetters in the last 100m. Krone and Spanish Whisper also ran well in the same race.

RACE 7: NIGHT'S WATCH 1, Folkswood 2, Odeon 3, Our Venice Beach 4

But for bungling the start Night's Watch would have won the Dato Tan. Needs to win this to ensure a Caulfield Cup start so all stops will be out. The obvious danger is English raider Folkswood who won the Cranbourne Cup first-up last spring before running third in the Cox Plate.

RACE 8: LAND OF PLENTY 1, Mr Sneaky 2, Sovereign Notion 3, Peaceful State 4

Typically wide race with a host of chances. Land Of Plenty has returned with two slashing 1200m runs and is at his best at 1400m. Just needs average luck from the wide draw. The same applies to Mr Sneaky who ran second in this race last year. Sovereign Notion ran fourth in this race last year and unlike that pair he draws to get the cosy run off the pace. Peaceful State is a backmarker with a withering sprint but will need all the breaks.

RACE 9: ELLICAZOOM 1, Global Glamour 2, I Am Excited 3, Plantinum Angel 4

Seeing is believing and Ellicazoom produced a withering finish to score first-up clocking the fastest last 400m and 200m of the meeting. The only threat is the proven Group class Global Glamour who is two for two at Caulfield.

BEST BETS:  Tulip, Lucky For All. VALUE: Bandipur.
