Tim's Tips for Standish Handicap Day at Flemington

Prahran Football Club, Fri Jan 14, 2022

WELCOME to  Tim's Tips - Selections for main Melbourne race meetings by former Herald Sun sports journalist Tim Habel. He is now a contributor to The Age so his tips for major city meetings will be in The Age formguide.

FLEMINGTON SATURDAY JANUARY 15, 2022, rail 9m,  track good 4

Race 1: ENGLISH RIVIERA 1, Jamarra 2, Lofty Strike 3, Maximillius 4

Race 2: DECENT RAINE 1, Attractable 2, Victory Bay 3, Capo Strada 4

Race 3: SOMERSET MAUGHAM 1, Under My Spell 2, Dark Dream 3, Odeon 4

Race 4: FIGHTING ARROW 1, Can't Go Wong 2, Elzamee 3, Race Against Time 4

Race 5: JUSTACANTA 1,  Not To Be Mist 2, Blazejowksi 3, Here To Shock 4

Race 6: OVER THE SKY 1, Divine Diosa 2, Field Of Roses 3, Zac De Boss 4

Over The Sky is undefeated fresh and has trialled nicely for a return win in a suitable race. Divine Diosa has also trialled well, Field Of Roses was impressive coming from last to score at Sandown over Pal D'Oro which has since won at Caulfield last Wednesday while Zac De Boss worked overtime from a wide draw last time and s fitter for two runs from a spell.

Race 7: THE ASTROLOGIST 1, Outlaw's Revenge 2, Halvorsen 3, Turaath 4

The Astrologist is a straight track specialist so has to be one to beat. SA raider Outlaw's Revenge raced too keenly in the Christmas Handicap, draws wide which is likely to be the place to be.

Race 8: MARCOLT 1, Redwood Shadow 2, Midas Prince 3, Convict Sam 4

Wide open race, Marcolt and Redwood Shadow are last start winners who will relish the step up to 2000m. Midas Prince was luckless last start at Caulfield while Convict Sam ran on gamely here.

Race 9: PICAROON 1, Modern Millie 2, Pictcharun 3, Mrs Sippy 4

SA raider Picaroon was most impressive weaving her way through traffic in a $100,000 race last start at Morphettville and can measure up here. Respect for UK import Modern Millie on Australian debut for the Waller yard.

.

BEST BETS: Somerset Maugham, Decent Raine. VALUE: Picaroon.

 THE $20 FLEXI QUADDIE.

For a $20 outlay you would receive 25 per cent of a $1 dividend.
