Great day for football,
virtually a replica of last weeks weather. MHSOB got out of
the blocks quicker and had the better of the early going.
The PC boys fought back hard and it was neck and neck with
MHSOB for the 1st half.
MHSOB were teaming a bit better
than Prahran Caulfield and had the better of the 3rd quarter
and most of the last quarter. The scoreline was a little
flattering for Prahran/Caulfield who fell away a bit this
week, compared to the week before.
Coaches "Nipples" and "Goodo"
were disappointed with the PC boys lack of focus both pre
game and during the game. Too many Prahran/Caulfield players
were content to allow MHSOB to be 1st to the ball and some
of the kicking choices the boys made had the coaching staff
scratching their heads at times!
There were some pretty good
individual performances on the day by Musster, Ramo, Joshy
and a few others however the lack of "one percenters"
and focus by the team was well below what is acceptable.
Need to regroup next week and
deliver the result that this group is well capable of.

Match
Report:
Very much a
scrappy game on a tight ground with both defences on
top. A far better, more committed performance from the
Prahran/Caulfield boys today.
Apart from the
field kicking at times, this was a much improved
performance on last week. The game was in the balance
for the large part of the game until midway through the
last quarter when St.Bede's kicked a few unanswered
goals. Prahran/Caulfield seemed to run out of legs in
the last quarter and the scoreboard blew out a bit at
the end of the game.
The tackling and
attack on the ball was much better this week although
St.Bede's probably took the ball away from the stoppages
the majority of the time. Prahran/Caulfield would have
had the better of the ruck contests thanks to the good
work of "Rowdy" O'Hare.
There were some
good individual performances from Vasil, Col, Dilan,
Joshy and Jules. For their size Dilan and Jules are
a couple of the most courageous players on the field and
set the example most times to the bigger blokes.
Looking forward
to when the boys are able to put it together for 4
quarters and come up with the points.
Round 6 U19's Prahran/Caulfield v's Monash
Prahran/Caulfield: 4.3.27 were defeated by Monash 13.11.89
Goals: Candy 3,Matt Raymond.
Best: Musster,Szylkrot,Candy,Trigellis-Smith,Hagen,Shrimpton,Pintado.
Match Report:
Our 1st wintry conditions for football this year and the boys were hoping this would work in their favour.Unfortunately Monash had other ideas and played almost dry day football in the 1st quarter by running in numbers, honouring strong leads, taking good overhead marks and kicking straight.
The PC boys looked totally shell shocked and whilst Monash scored 8.1 Prahran/Caulfield were unable to score. It was looking like a long wet afternoon.
After the quarter time break Prahran/Caulfield regrouped, attacked the ball with more desperation and started to work for each other. The result was the PC boys scored 4 goals for the quarter to no score from Monash. You would have thought there was a gale blowing down to that end of the ground with 12 goals scored up one end to nothing down the other.
The boys came of the park much happier with themselves at the long break and were given plenty of encouragement from the coaching staff.
Monash came out after half time and asserted their authority again with a couple of quick goals. The rest of the game was a bit of a dogfight with many packs forming and some hard in and under football required.
Credit to Monash they played the game hard and very fairly and were too good for our boys on the day. They look to have many quality players and were a fair bit taller and stronger than our boys.
Good performers today for Prahran/Caulfield were Tommy Candy (who missed last week) with 3 good goals this week,James Musster was his usual busy self getting plenty of the football and annoying the opposition at the same time,Pinners laid some great tackles and Ollie Hagen looks to have returned to some good form.
Apart from the 1st quarter where Monash dominated with 8 goals, honours were pretty even for the rest of the game with Monash scoring 1 more goal than Prahran/Caulfeld over the next 3 quarters. The PC coaching staff obviously weren't happy with the 1st quarter, however were pleased with the fightback and endeavour shown by the PC boys over the last 3 quarters.
Let's hope the boys can crack it for a win soon!
Prahran/Caulfield V's Penninsula U19's Round 7
Round 8 31/5/08 Prahran/Caulfield v's Ajax Score: Prahran/Caulfield 6.7.43 were defeated by Ajax 21.12.138.
Goalkickers: Vasil 2,Candy 2,O'Hare,Maya.
Best: O'Hare,Szylkrot,Shrimpton,Vasil,Matherson,Bourke,Trigellis-Smith.
Match Report:
On another great day for football and after last weeks opening win for the season,Prahran/Caulfield came up against 2nd place Ajax at Princes Park.
The instruction from the coaching staff was to play tight and contest everything and in the early going that is what Prahran/Caulfield did.For the large part of the 1st quarter the game was locked at 2 goals a piece, but in the very latter part of the game Ajax played some skilled football and kicked a few goals ahead at the quarter time break.
Although Ajax were not a big side they were very quick and well drilled and they started to assert a bit of authority in the 2nd quarter. The PC boys were starting to get a little distracted and involved in a few minor scuffles and the disputing of umpiring decisions. The lead was out to about 7 goals by half time, but Prahran/Caulfield did have some good passages of play in what was not a bad standard of U19 football.
The 3rd quarter however was a shambles and started to become a bit of a procession at times.Prahran-Caulfield by now had all but lost the plot and were letting themselves down badly with their lack of discipline.Ajax were hurting the PC boys badly now on the scoreboard. The PC boys would rather scuffle with the opposition and moan to the umpires than concentrate on the job at hand.
To be honest I can't remember seeing a team complaining about the umpiring decisions and being sucked in by the opposition as much as our boys were today. It was not good!
The boys did rally a bit in the first part of the last quarter to their credit, until they fell back into the old habits in the latter part of this quarter. In the end it was a far more disciplined and accomplished Ajax who took out the game by 95 points.
Ability wise the margin should have been a lot closer.Maturity wise the gap was enormous!
Time to regroup for the PC boys, understand why they are out there on a Saturday Afternoon and produce the football they are well capable on a regular basis.
Round 9 Match Report 14/06/08 Parkdake v's Prahran/Caulfield Score: Parkdale 12.18.90 defeated Prahran/Caulfield 11.12.78
Goalkickers: Maya 2,Smith 2,Candy 2,Musster 2,Bennets,Ledder,Vasil.
Best: Musster,Szylkrot,O'Hare,Hagen,Maya.
Match Report:
Difficult report to write up as, although the game seemed close on the scoreboard it was a bit one sided for the large part of the game.A very strange game from the Prahran/Caulfield perspective indeed !
The game started with the PC boys thinking they were a bit of a chance given that Parkdale were also occupying the "Southern" end of the ladder just above them.
Prahran/Caulfield had the better of the first part of the 1st quarter before Parkdale fought their way back into the game.Parkdale upped the pressure and probably finshed off the better in the first term.
Scores were even for much off the 2nd quarter until Parkdale kicked 3 fairly easy goals towards the end of the term. The PC boys were really not putting in the effort required in the 2nd term and let Parkdale go into half time with the upper hand and a 3 goal lead.
Not sure what happened after half time but Parkdale decided they wanted to win the football game and PC decided they weren't prepared to put the their head over the ball, therefore got absolutely steamrolled in the 3rd term. The lack of courage to win the footy in this quarter and complete absence of 2nd efforts had to be seen to be believed! Accordingly Parkdale went into 3 quarter time with an unassailable 57 point lead.
The coaches asked the PC boys for a bit of pride and effort in the last as they were really letting themselves and the club s down.
To the boys credit they did lift(and maybe Parkdale took their foot of the pedal) and kicked 6 or 7 unanswered goals in the last quarter.Had the quarter gone another 10 minutes longer and they might of stolen the match. This left the coaching staff wondering where the effort was in stages of the 1st and 2nd quaters and the entire 3rd quarter!
Areas that need immediate work are attack on the football(more courage required),2nd efforts and greater visual awareness on the field(switches of play were on but not seen).
You simply can't win games of footy without a sustained 4 quarter effort and the commitment to put your head over the ball.
Good individual efforts came from Musster,Jules,Rowdy and a few others who did put in for the whole game.
Round 10 Match Report Score: Bentleigh 21.12.138 defeated Prahran/Caulfield 9.13.67
Goalkickers: Candy 2,Maya 2,Ledder,Vasil,Musster,Bennets,Mike Raymond.
Best: Trigellis-Smith,Hagen,Ohare,Szylkrot,Matt Raymond,Musster,Candy,Barnden.
Match Report:
Pretty good day for football on a good ground at Bentleigh. The boys had an early gathering for brunch to help focus them on this game and prepare them to put in a better effort this week.
Bentleigh got of to a good start and showed Prahran/Caulfield early that they were going to apply plenty of physical pressure throughout the game. The PC boys took a while to respond to this pressure and Bentleigh got out to a good lead early.Bentleigh were on top early in the ruck and were killing us at the stoppages.
Credit to "Rowdy" O'Hare that while beaten early in the ruck, he did step up to the required physical level and got better and better as the game went on probably topping his opponent for the day.Unfortunately we were still being smashed at the stoppages and Ollie and Jules were under siege at times, however they both held up really well down back.Bentleigh continued to score freely and kicked quite a few "soft" goals where their PC opponent just did not commit a strong enough tackle to retard the Bentleigh attacker.
At times today and right through the season Prahran/Caulfield have shown that they can score goals extremely quickly without the opponents touching the ball and when they play this free flowing football they look brilliant. However to get this going they have to win the football first and too much is left to too few in this department. There was much emphasis on winning the hard ball and the "one percenters" by the coaching staff today and stats were taken(for this department) and an award given out to reward this effort.Col Trigellis won this award as he is a regular in this department along with Matt Raymond and Jules.Barney was also good and had the team orientated focus to put on a few shepherds. The shepherding and blocking is way down for what is required in a football match.
Bentleigh won the game comfortably in the end. They desired the win more than the PC boys, were physically and more importantly mentally stronger than Prahran/Caulfield throughout the game. The PC boys seem to have lost their self belief at this stage of the season and need to understand that they are quite capable of matching it with every team in this comp.Too much is left to few at the moment, possibly due to a lack in confidence. The boys need to fight back as a group(meaning everybody) when the opposition put the challenge to them. The onballers reaction times need to be sharper and they must also work defensively when their opponents are streaming down the field in numbers.
The positives were that a few guys that don't normally put their head over the ball did today and hopefully this commitment will filter through to the whole group eventually. Also it is worth mentioning the on field leadership that is currently being shown by Col,Jules,Rowdy,Musster and Matty Raymond. They can't do it on their own boys!
Round 11 Match Results Score: Prahran/Caulfield 14.13.97 were defeated by St Bedes 16.10.106
Goalkickers:Unavailable at this stage.
Best: Moore, Trigellis-Smith,Maya,O'Hare,Candy,Szylkrot,Shrimpton.
Match Report:
The boys started off well in the 1st quarter and it was obvious from the start that they were more committed this week.A feature of their game today was the tackling pressure they put on the opposition causing St Bedes to turn the ball over.PC boys missed a couple of easy goals early which would prove costly later.
Prahran/Caulfield seemed to be working harder in the early part of the game and were even putting on a few shepherds to protect the ball carrier. The boys went in at the main break ahead with the scoring end in the 3rd quarter and things were looking good if they were able to keep up their intensity and concentration for the 2nd half of the game.An off the ball scrap between a St.Bede's player and a couple of the PC boys seemed to change the momentum of the game.Up until that stage the game was played pretty hard but fair (and it continued to be) however this incident seemed to wake St Bede's up a bit and they started to play with a lot more intensity and desperation. They kicked 3 goals in pretty quick succession and had PC a bit rattled before the boys steadied and answered St.Bede's back on the scoreboard.
Prahran/Caulfield held a few goal advantage at 3/4 quarter time but the question was with St.Bede's having the aid of the breeze in the last quarter was this lead going to be enough? Unfortunately it wasn't and credit to St.Bede's who kept their momentum going right to the final siren running out with a 9 point victory.Prahran/Caulfield were unable to shut the game down in the last quarter and create enough stoppages to protect their lead.In fact their were very few stoppages in the last quarter and the football was pretty free flowing which played into St. Bedes hands.
For Prahran/Caulfield this was definitely 'The one that got away",sadly. On the positive side, this was definitely a step forward from previous weeks. The tackling was better, the kicking to position was better and most importantly the Self confidence and focus was improved. Also as a group the discipline was a lot better apart from a couple individuals involved in an incident after the game.
A much better performance however very frustrating at the same time!
