SOUTHBANK Amateur Football Club evolved from the State Savings Bank and then Commonwealth Bank.
In 1994 the club changed its name to Southbank Football Club as the Commonwealth Bank stopped
providing sponsorship dollars. We felt that the name Southbank not only
represented our geographical location it also reflected our "Bank"
Prahran (VFA) went into recess at the end of 1994. About half a dozen players and half a
dozen committee/supporters came across to Southbank FC for the 1995 season.
In 1995 we moved from Albert Park to one of the grounds beside Rod Laver Arena in Swan St
due to the impending Grand Prix works at Albert Park.
At the end of the 1996 season the VAFA adjusted the composition of the sections for D
grade and below so despite winning 8 or 9 games we were relegated to E South
section for 1997.
Coached by current Collingwood recruiting guru Derek Hine, the club had an outstanding
year in 1997 winning the senior premiership without losing a game
(Premiers & Champions) and the reserves also winning the flag (but lost
their only game for the year in the 2nd semi final). Seniors defeated St
Pats/Mentone and the reserves defeated Oakleigh.
In 1998 the seniors lost the D grade grand final to Whitefriars but earnt promotion to C
At the end of 1998 Southbank were forced to re-locate away from the Swan St ground as works
commenced on building what is now Hisense Arena. Prahran FC had traded its way out of debt and was keen to establish a team again. The basic situation was that Prahran could get a ground (Toorak Park) but had no team and Southbank had a team but no
ground. It was agreed that we would merge with Prahran FC to become Prahran
Amateur Football Club for the 1999 season.
Prahran was unable to secure Toorak Park for the 1999 season due to a council vote on appeal in favour of Old Xavierians so
the club played out of Royal Park in Parkville.
The club moved to Toorak Park for the 2000 season sharing the ground with Old Xaverians which continues to this day.

At the end of 2010 we held talks with ex- Assumption students that were trying to get a team
into the VAFA but could not find a suitable ground. We were struggling to get a
good supply of kids coming through our juniors and thought the Assumption
football nursery might provide that vital influx of young players.
The club changed its name to Prahran Assumtion FC for the 2011 season. Coached by Leigh
Stafford seniors went through the season undefeated and won the D3 Grand Final
against Monash Gryphons by 70 odd points. After losing the first two games of
the year the reserves then didn't lose another one until losing to Uni High
School OBs by 8 points in the GF. We had around 10 ex-Assumption players spread
across the seniors and reserves.
In 2012 the seniors lost the grand Final to Bulleen/Templestowe by 2
points . Reserves lost in the first semi. Club promoted to D grade for 2013
