New Senior Coach for Season 2009
Praharan Football Club has appointed former TAC Cup assistant coach Steve Mead as senior coach for 2009.
Mead was assistant to Shane Molloy at Sandringham Dragons in 2008 and earlier was assistant to Neil Ross at the Oakleigh Chargers. Steve has an extensive coaching background including a stint as senior coach at Adelaide amateur club Tea Tree Gully and played senior football with Woodville-West Torrens in Adelaide. Steve comes highly recommended as a dedicated, knowledgeable coach with extensive game style know how. In fact he was recommended as a head coach candidate at Sandy Dragons. He is passionate about his footy, and has a long term aim of full time employment in the game. Steve succeeds Paul Greenham who stood down in November because of work and family commitments. The club is hopeful Paul will resume playing in 2009 after recovering from major knee surgery. The coaching appointment process involved us considering almost 20 well credentialled people, and coming up with a shortlist of three preferred candidates.
These candidates were then approached and the position discussed over the last two weeks, with Steve's attitude, approach and professionalism throughout the process making him the standout candidate for this role, leaving us with no hesitation in offering him the Senior Coaching position for 2009.
The coaching sub-committee, comprising Player Welfare Manager Wil Walford, Vice President Kev Matherson, Football Director Steve Powell and Football Manager Leigh Stafford, in consultation with the committee, felt that Steve was a truly great fit for our football club, in particular with our goal of providing all Prahran footballers with a first-class football environment in which to get the best from themselves.
With the recent appointment of Stu "Rexy" Livingston as Fitness Coach, the reappointment of Mick Windridge as Reserves Coach and the imminent appointment of the remaining coaching staff, we are confident everything is in place for us to match the momentum that has been gained off the field within the football department for 2009.
Steve's involvement atTAC Cup level will be a massive bonus for us, particularly with the Under 19 side now being stand alone and with the continued development of younger players.
